(c) SFPUC GM Pat Martel:“In recent discussions,Mayor Newsom and I have agreed that as part of his new administration it is important for him to establish his own team at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Therefore,within the next few months I will be moving on to pursue other professional opportunities.”Steve Kawa,the mayor’s chief of staff,in conversations Friday told Martel and Rec and Parks chief Elizabeth Goldstein they should be looking for work. They will keep their posts during a transition to new leadership.

Fiona Ma and retired Judge Lilian Sing sat down in January,when both wanted to run for Leland Yee’s State Assembly seat. They agreed to go ahead and see what support they could muster,Ma said Sunday. …That was then. …Last week,Sing told the Chinese press she’s considering a supervisor run. She’s got a house in District 1,home of Supervisor Jake McGoldrick.

Wilfred Hsu,president of the San Francisco Port Commission,had a nice corner table near the door last Tuesday at Butterfly,as David Cruise hosted a fundraiser for his District 2 campaign. Cruise said a couple Port employees were at the bar when the party started,but left when someone recognized them. Butterfly is on Pier 33,prime Port turf. Then again,Michela Alioto-Pier,the appointed incumbent in D2,is fresh off the commission.

It looks like longtime Democratic County Central Committee member Leslie Katz,a one-time supervisor,vs. Bill Barnes,aide to Supervisor Chris Daly and former Willie Brown special assistant on AIDS policy,for the chair of the local Democratic Party. Both are claiming 20 votes for the office,with only 33 total. Katz temporarily filled Carole Migden’s seat on the Board of Supervisors,while Migden is backing Barnes. The vote comes on April 14. UPDATE:Barnes tells this site he has a majority of votes,but isn’t claiming the office until the vote.
